For the Lord is righteous,
    he loves justice;
    the upright will see his face.

We naturally think in a system of performance and reward. A system where “we get what we deserve.” So it would be easy to read Psalm 11:7 and think that the “reward” (which is seeing God) is achieved by the “performance” of being upright. The only problem with that, is that when we’re honest with ourselves none of us are truly upright. No one is perfect. At best, we think we measure up pretty good to others…which in itself is a pretty proud thought…which is of course, not very upright. So why would God reveal a reward that none of us are able to obtain? Well, we can obtain it, we just don’t get there through performance. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.” That means that simply receiving the grace of God makes us upright! So instead of getting uptight about the fact that you don’t feel upright, receive the gift of Jesus’ grace and begin to see the face of God…which continues to look like grace!
