With God we will gain the victory,
and he will trample down our enemies.
Are you competitive? I’m so competitive that I feel there are really only two types of people - competitive people and those who pretend that they aren’t competitive to compensate for the fact that are are particularly good at something. I know, I know, there are some people who are genuinely not very competitive, but one thing is certain, I’ve never met anyone who prefers to lose. We all prefer victory to defeat.
Throughout the entirety of Scripture we can observe a running theme that victory comes from God. Psalm 60:12 ends with that type of a promise. However, being that David seemed to be perpetually under real, imminent physical attack, there is a different dynamic to the victory he’s talking about and it can lead me to think that since I’m not in a physical confrontation that the victory promised in Scripture is not for me. Nothing could be further from the truth. Ephesians 6:12 says, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” This means that we are in a spiritual battle…the devil hates humanity and is doing everything he can to steal, kill and destroy, but Jesus came so we could be with Him and have the victory.
