You turned my wailing into dancing;
you removed my sackcloth and clothed me with joy,
12 that my heart may sing your praises and not be silent.
Lord my God, I will praise you forever.
“I wish I knew then what I know now.”
“Hindsight is 20/20.”
”I didn’t see that coming!”
Statements like these are common place because we simply can’t know the future. Whatever we are experiencing right now (whether good or bad) can tend to shape our view of what we will always experience.
David doesn’t know everything that his future will hold, but because he knows the nature of God whose “anger lasts only a moment, but [whose] favor lasts a lifetime”(Psalm 30:5) he is confident that he’ll have every reason to praise FOREVER. Even when our past, or even our present, feels less than ideal, we can be confident in this - The Best is Yet to Come!
